Button Ruffled Boot Cuffs

20150126_211018Get the warmth and style without all the bulge in your boots with these cute ruffled boot cuffs! I love the ribbed texture that using the back loops with single crochet creates. This measures 11 inches unstretched. If you need to add another inch there are instructions in the pattern to do so.

Button Ruffled Hat with Flower

20150126_204850

This ruffled hat will not only keep you warm but it is stylish as well. The ruffle adds a small brim to the hat and the ridges give it some texture. It reminds me of a hat from the 20s so Downton Abbey fans will love this! The button ruffled flower is a great applique for this hat too!

First in Series: FREE Button Ruffled Flower Pattern

wpid-20150122_205015.jpgI have been diligently working on my very first (hopefully of many) series of patterns. This is the first pattern that I will release in the series. I hope it gives you a glimpse into my theme. This is the Button Ruffled Flower. It is FREE and will always remain FREE since it is my first. The other patterns will be released during the month of February and be offered free with a coupon code at my Esty shop and on Craftsy.com since it is my birthday month!

This flower is a great accent for a variety of accessories. Add it to a wpid-20150122_205108.jpghat, headband, ear warmer or scarf! The button is optional but it is part of what gives this pretty flower its name. With the button there is no need to sew this onto your accessory. Just slip it over! This flower is quick to work up too so you can make several in different colors and just swap them out! The possibilities are endless.

2015 Crochet Along – Mystery Afghan

I am very excited to be participating in my 1st crochet along! This is the 2015 Crochet Along – Mystery Afghan by The Crochet Crowd. It will be starting February 10 and go for 10 weeks ending in April.

I just ordered by yarn from yarninspirations.com in the following colors:

  • Caron Simply Soft – Burgundy
  • Caron Simply Soft – Off White
  • Caron Simply Soft Heathers – Grey Heather
  • Caron Simply Soft Heathers – Charcoal Heather

I chose Version 3 but the Contrast A color was out of stock so I changed it to burgundy. I hope you all will following along with my progress (here or through Facebook) or sign-up yourself and post your own progress! I think this will be a great project for myself to learn and grow my skills.

Handmade Wooden Yarn Bowl

I keep seeing yarn winders popping up everywhere along with stylish yarn bowls. I wanted to share with you the one-of-a-kind bowl that I have. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and…it was made by my dad. He has been working with wood for some time and I was humbled to receive this a few months ago when it was evident that I was just as “hooked” as my mom is to crocheting and yarn. He is a man of very little words, but I knew that this gift meant that he thought that I had a gift. It was a definite boost to my self-esteem as a crocheter.

Now I just need a winder to be able to utilize this to it fullest potential!

I also have a handmade wooden snippet bowl made by my dad. Cutest little bowl I have ever seen! Weaving in ends is my least favorite part and this is a great item to have to throw my scraps in and not make a mess.

Momma’s Monkey Bread

Monkey bread is one of the easiest and yummiest dishes I have made. Everyone has their version and this is mine. I usually make this around the holidays when people are coming over since it is very appetizing to look at and it makes a decent amount of servings. It is also great to make on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Then you do not have to worry about breakfast for Sunday since there are leftovers.

This is also a great dish to make when kid’s want to help. There is no right or wrong way to roll or place the biscuits. When I got out the ingredients this weekend to starting making this, my daughter instantly grabbed her stool to help!

Ingredients

1 – 4 pack Pillsbury© buttermilk biscuits

1 cup sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon

1 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup unsalted butter

1 tbsp water

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°.
  2. Sprinkle pecans into bottom of pan.

    Step 2 - Sprinkle pecans.

    Step 2 – Sprinkle pecans.

  3. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

Step 3 - Mix cinnamon and sugar.

Step 3 – Mix cinnamon and sugar.

  4. Cut biscuits into quarters and roll in cinnamon sugar. Place in pan.

    Step 4 - Quarter biscuits.

    Step 4 – Quarter biscuits.

  5. Melt brown sugar, butter and water into a sauce pan. Boil for 2 minutes then pour over biscuits.
  6. Place in oven and bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Let cool for 5-10 minutes then place plate UPSIDE-DOWN over the bread and flip over to get bread out (This is my favorite part). You will have some pecans left in the pan. Use a spoon to scoop out and place on top of bread (No, wait, this is my favorite part because you get to sample the remnants!).

Step 7 - Flip bread onto plate.

Step 7 – Flip bread onto plate.

My Hook: I use buttermilk biscuits, but you can experiment with other kinds to get a different taste to the bread. You can do the same with the nuts. I love pecans because they add a nice sweetness. They become candied with the sauce! If you want to knock down the sweet, try walnuts. Still good, but not as sweet. Some recipes I have seen do a 1:1 ratio with the brown sugar and butter. I think it gives it too much of a butter taste so I lowered the butter content.

New York Giants Football Helmet Hat – Adult and Toddler

New York Giants Football Helmet Hat - Toddler

New York Giants Football Helmet Hat – Toddler

With football season almost over, I wanted to share these hats that I made for my husband and son. You can find the pattern here. The pattern is written for an Ohio State hat and as you can see I made a few modifications for my boys. We are New York Giants fans in this house!

I used I Love This Yarn™ in White and Royal (blue) and Red Heart With Love™ in Holly Berry. This was the first time I had to sew on a piece like this. I recommend pinning your stripe prior to sewing.

My Hook: I used one color throughout and only changed my color for the trim. For the stripe I again did one color and only 3 rows (sc, dc, sc).
